Argent
Argent is an English rock band founded in 1969 by keyboardist Rod Argent, formerly of The Zombies. Guitarist/keyboardist Russ Ballard was a member of the band till 1974 (so he already left the band when they were supporting Rainbow). Argent's biggest hit was "Hold Your Head Up", featuring lead vocals by Russ Ballard. Argent was support act on the first few dates but also at the end of this short first tour. A few years later Rainbow covered the Russ Ballard compositions "Since You Been Gone" and "I Surrender".
UFO
UFO is an English heavy metal and hard rock band that was formed in 1969. UFO became a transitional group between early hard rock and heavy metal and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. UFO were support act in Long Island NY & Pittsburgh PA. UFO also supported Rainbow in 1981 (Spain) and 1982 (US Tour) on a few shows.
The Mutants
Local rockband from Detroit who replaced Argent for the Detroit show. Not to be mixed up with the San Francisco punk rock and new wave band The Mutants of later fame. They started not before 1977. The Mutants were support act in Detroit MI.
Steppenwolf
Steppenwolf is an American rock group that was prominent from 1968 till 1972. The band reached worldwide fame with "Born to Be Wild", released in 1968. Steppenwolf reformed in 1974 and supported Rainbow in Fresno CA.
