The group, which primarily performed instrumentals, was formed as a backing band for vocalist Cliff Richard. Marvin has a distinctive guitar sound and appearance, primarily using a clean sound with very distinctive echo and vibrato giving a dreamy effect. Twang spotlights the music of Hank Marvin and the Shadows. Clearly one of the biggest influences on surf as well as British rock & roll, the Shadows' music (aside from their work with Cliff Richard) was always marked by a clean precision that welded R&B, country, rock and other influences perfectly. The re-recordings here bear this out. |
